Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny quiet town. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. Many people believe that it is an island that lies west of Montreal however the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities in Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often referred to as her birthplace. It is true that she was there for a brief period of time. Brugel was a young woman within Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. Early ambitions were to become an expert dancer. However, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow her dance partners she was able to have. The article she wrote about her experience revealed written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. When I surpassed the size of my male companion then I slowed down. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In Brugel's case it was the guidance from her drama teacher at high school that led her to the path she needed. She was recommended by a teacher getting a part in the school's annual production. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her BA in Fine Arts at York University. For the past twenty years, the roles played by Brugel on TV and the big screen have been varied. Her role as Rita in the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel was the character Rita in The Handmaid's Tale, a series that was filmed over ten years ago.
