Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka is an American British sitarist and musician. She received the British House of Commons' Shield, which is the youngest and first female recipient. Alongside receiving nine Grammy nominations, she was also the first musician of Indian origin to perform in the live ceremony. Anoushka is a new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She is a scholar and granddaughter of legendary Ravi Shankar. Born in London in 1982 and was a young girl who travelled back and forth between London as well as New Delhi. Her debut concert was at New Delhi at the tender age of 13. She then moved to Encinitas CA, where she received the High School diploma with honors in 1999. Anouskha even though she is just a teenager, has had a successful performing and recording career. She is often seen performing alongside her father and has performed with him for many years. She released her first self-titled album Anourag in 1998. The following year, she released the Grammy nomination-winning Live at Carnegie Hall. She's performed in all famous venues throughout the world. The career of Anoushka goes far beyond music. Bapi The of My Life of My Live is her 2002 memoir, that was a tribute to Ravi Shankar. In addition, she has appeared in a number of films. In 2003, she played the role in the film Dance Like a Man where she plays a young Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka shankar is a rising celebrity and her popularity will keep on growing. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent a lot of her early years in London and Delhi later relocating to California where she went to high school. When she was nine years old, she started studying music with her father making her performing debut on the sitar four years later during his birthday party in Delhi. Accompanying her father as his world tour, Anoushka racked up a wealth of performances at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens. She performed at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival as well as recording together with George Harrison. She was the first woman to receive the House of Commons Shield, given by the British Parliament in recognition of her musical talent and artistic ability within music and the Asian Arts.
